Columbus House is a large ranch style home in Oak Ridge, New Jersey. Columbus House "provides help and creates hope" for 5 people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, some of whom have advanced medical concerns.
Columbus House opened at the site of the closed Camp Alexander in Oak Ridge, NJ in 1980.
Columbus House is named after the Knights of Columbus for their devotion to helping people with special needs. The Knights of Columbus are the largest Catholic, Fraternal Service Organization in the world.
To date, the Knights have raised more than $4,000,000 directly to the Department for Persons with Disabilities, through disability drives and other endeavors. They have also donated thousands of hours of volunteer efforts.
In 1987, renovation work was completed on Columbus House to accommodate non-ambulatory residents. In 2002, major renovations doubled the size of Columbus House to serve more people in need.
