COVID-19 has caused us to cancel our golf outing, but DPD's ministry perseveres on!
100% of the virtual event proceeds will benefit the Department for Persons with Disabilities (DPD)
Sean will be missing the Wiegand Farm Golf Classic this year, but you can still make a difference!
Each day, Catholic Charities, Department for Persons with Disabilities provides help and creates hope for hundreds of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This service has persevered through the COVID-19 crisis.
Throughout the last 45 years, we have proudly held the Wiegand Farm Golf Classic, every year in June. This event, started by Jefferson Township resident Jack Kelly has raised over $5 million for our cause since it’s inception in 1975. It has grown to become one of the largest golf outings in the country. It is a great source of fun and pride for many.
The Catholic Charities, Department for Persons with Disabilities leadership team and board of trustees has made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s in-person event. With over 400 golfers and volunteers coming out to the Wiegand in 2019, it becomes a challenging event to reschedule, with many uncertain variables. Crystal Springs has been kind enough to push our deposit back to 2021 and we are asking our golfers to save the date for 2021: June 21st.
DPD’s needs are greater than ever as we meet the challenges of COVID-19. Throughout the last several months, we have worked diligently to keep our service recipients and staff safe. We have had to invest in personal protective equipment and have incurred many unbudgeted COVID-19 related expenses. In addition, we anticipate funding cuts from both the federal and state government. These aditional expenses, cuts, and the absence of our 2020 in-person event, maje this an unprecented time in our organization's history. Your support, is needed, now more than ever, to help us continue to provide a high level of cae for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
On September 18th, we will have a ceremony honoring DPD's Heroes (direct care staff on the front lines) that will broadcast on social media (more information to follow). We will also draw our MEGA 50/50 ticket on this day.
We plan to bring our Wiegand Farm Golf Classic back bigger, better, and with more DPD spirit than ever before in 2021!
Though our in-person event is cancelled, we are asking you to contribute to our 2020 virtual event. You can help by:
