The New Jersey Early Intervention System (NJEIS), implements New Jersey's statewide system of services for infants and toddlers, birth to age three, with developmental delays or disabilities, and their families. The Department of Health is appointed by the Governor as the lead agency for the Early Intervention System in New Jersey, and the system is Part C of the Federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
Every county has a designated Targeted Evaluation Team (TET) who provides eligibility evaluations to all identified children in their designated county, and is reimbursed by NJ DOH as a fee for service letter of agreement.
Catholic Charities is the primary TET for Bergen and Passaic County, for 25% of Essex county, and we are the back up team for Hudson County. The TET is a group of highly trained specialists consisting of Speech, Physical, and Occupational Therapists, Behavior Specialists, Special Educators, Child Development Specialists, Teachers of the Hearing and Vision Impaired, and Social Workers. Using a multi-disciplinary model, the TET evaluates all referred children for eligibility into the NJ Early Intervention System and also provides additional assessments to enrolled children as the need is identified, while following federal timelines.
Our teams conduct approximately seven hundred evaluations and assessments per month.
